With 2010 here and the Chinese New Year on the way, it’s a good time to take charge of your space and clear the clutter. It’s also the perfect time of the year to add new art to your living area as symbols that will bring you abundance & prosperity in the coming year.

Our living spaces, like our dreams, speak in symbols. The symbols, shapes, and colors we surround ourselves with tell a story of our lives. It may speak to a love of travel and culture through artwork collected from around the world. Or it may speak to a certain aesthetic sensibility. For example, a Buddha image invites peaceful serenity. A floral motif invokes natural beauty. Sacred art in general can help to make a space feel more sacred. It’s important that we place objects and items in our space which inspire and motivate us especially for the coming year.

Everyone needs items to make us feel good and help us move forward in life and lift up our energy. Clutter has way of pressing down that energy. When we fill our homes with excess clutter it may be an obstacle or a way of avoidance. Unfilled space can be intimidating and clutter fills space. Yet keeping special items around us can make us feel comfortable, so it’s good to set your intention and go from there.

In the process of removing excess clutter in your life, you don’t just find space, you’ll find yourself. It’s good sacred space practice to use auspicious symbols as enhancers around your home or office. This is a great way to lift the energy of your life. But you must make the space for it first. If you place a beautiful symbol in an area in the midst of excess clutter, you could miss the effect and the ability of the symbol to work its magic for you. After you clear the clutter from your space any symbols and beautiful elements you place there will become not only more noticeable but also more potent in your life.

Add art as symbols for wealth and prosperity around your home and garden. When your whole space is energized, it becomes magnetic to wealth! This is the so-called law of attraction at work.

So what does it mean to “Create Sacred Space”?

Posted in Sacred Space Design on December 14th, 2009 by admin

“The most visible joy can only reveal itself to us when we’ve transformed it, within.” – Rainer Maria Rilke

Think of Sacred Space as your personal sanctuary.Think of Sacred Space as your personal sanctuary.

When you say you are “Creating Sacred Space” you are creating a space that you honor because it has a deeper meaning, you are connected to it and it responds by supporting you better. It is akin to a sanctuary. The ultimate goal of creating sacred space is the process of creating a place that supports you mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. When you create a sacred space, you are creating an environment that supports you; you can embrace it and it makes you feel better. One of the benefits of integrating sacred space into your environment is to enhance good health, prosperity and good luck. When you take the time to create sacred space in your home you will experience more comfort, joy, and peace.

Creating Sacred Space connects our inner and outer environments. It opens up “space” which allows you to experience your personal journey inward, where individuality is honored and your own creative style can begin to manifest. By understanding that our inner and outer experiences are connected, it makes sense to begin creating sacred space in your home. Begin by assessing the flow of energy in your living environment. Evaluate the placement and positioning of your furniture, the condition of your rooms, closets, garage and your personal items as well. Take special note of their use in your everyday life.

One of the main principles of creating Sacred Space is being mindful that “Everything is energy and everything is connected.” This means everything you own is connected to you and affects your life energy. When energy is blocked or constricted by things that aren’t used, loved or needed, you may find yourself stumbling through your life. Clutter sets up obstacles that might impact your ability to find freedom. Unfinished business and/or unresolved issues can drain your energy and cause discomfort. Emotionally, it can lead to feelings of being overwhelmed, confused or disordered.

Creating sacred space does not have to be complicated. Put on your “Sacred Eyes” and look at your space consciously. Take an honest assessment of what items in your home can be donated, sold or just thrown away. This process will begin your journey into creating sacred space in your physical environment and also help you to clear your inner clutter.

Introducing rituals, traditions and celebrations into your daily life can also help you shift your energy. You could develop a ritual of lighting a candle every night, or you could state a prayer of gratitude in the morning and at night. You could create an affirmation, or make a bow to an image placed in your space which represents that affirmation to you. Maybe you are inspired to be in the garden to connect with nature’s energy. Or it can be the simple experience of being with a loved one.

Creating sacred space is about clearing physical and mental clutter. Begin with your home and the inner journey will start to unfold. Allow the flow of unblocked energy to move freely through your home and this will open your life to new opportunities. By integrating items symbolic with special meaning in your space you can cultivate the sacred. In fact, any form of art work such as paintings, photographs, carvings, sculpture, pottery, and ceramics can act as a remedy to enhance the energy of a space when placed appropriately.

Creating a Sacred Space

A sacred space can be your place to find healing and peace.
A sacred space can be your place to find healing and serenity.

"Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again."                                             -Joseph Campbell

A sacred space is an area of your home or garden that you designate as being a place to commune with your divine, innermost self. An example of sacred space would be a room in your home reserved for yoga, prayer, contemplation or meditation. It could also be a corner of your home that has an altar or a niche in your garden. If you wanted to, you could make every area of your home or garden a sacred space, although not as many people do this.  The important point is to pick out a place that makes you feel calm and peaceful, a place where you can either quietly think or simply quiet your thinking. Turn that into your sacred space.  Other factors include allowing the space into your daily life, having the right mental frame of mind, and being prepared physically and emotionally to be there in the moment.

Sacred space can be sanctified through prayer or chant to mark it as sacred. Make a sacred time for yourself by beginning and ending with a chant or bow. This ritual, done as you enter and leave your space, encourages a fresh look at the thoughts and feelings arising.

Everyone has something that’s special or important to them, put those items there. Whatever draws you into a place of healing. Center yourself there in your own sacred space. At Routes Gallery we are honored to help you create sacred space with items of beauty and inspiration. Let us know what you are looking for, perhaps we can assist.
